The International AIDS Society (IAS), as part of its project "Improving access to opioid substitution therapy ( OST) for injecting drug users in Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA)» acted as the founder of the Virtual Centre of Knowledge and Learning ( VTSZO ) . The main objective of the project - to promote the expansion of successful programs , confirmed the results of HIV prevention, treatment , and care for people who inject drugs and drug policy reform .

VTSZO aims to make a contribution to knowledge and capacity building for operational research by increasing the scale of OST programs for people who inject drugs , creating in Russian extensive clinical database of the OST , harm reduction and HIV infection. The base also includes specialized documents and training modules health professionals , narcologists , MPs , non-governmental organizations ( NGOs), and any other interested persons and parties involved , working in this field in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

The impetus for the creation of this extraordinary initiative was the realization of the fact that, despite the existence of numerous online sources of information about OST and harm reduction in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, a single, comprehensive central information area , based on clinical studies , no . VTSZO seeks to fill this gap . To achieve its goal , IAS calls for cooperation with key organizations , both inside and outside the EECA region to jointly participate in the collection , selection and classification of key information.
VTSZO was created in partnership with the Ukrainian Institute on Public Health Policy .

Distance learning

The Virtual Knowledge Center proposes for professionals distance learning courses giving possibility to get or to update information about addictions and related disorders including evidence based methods of prevention and treatment.

The library is intended to remedy the lack of up to date Russian language professional literature concerning various types of addictions. We will translate English and French languages publications from the most important sources which are not understandable for Russian speaking readers.
